Requirements for making an e-shram card?

The Ministry of Labor and Employment said in a statement that migrant workers can now avail social security benefits like accidental insurance and employment-based schemes by registering on the e-shram portal and downloading the e-shram card. The central government said that since its launch on August 26 this year, more than one crore unorganized workers have registered on the e-shram portal

“A major chunk of migrant workers are engaged in these areas of work. According to the Economic Survey 2019-20, there are an estimated 38 crore Unorganized Workers (UWs) in the country, who will be targeted to register on this portal. These migrant workers can also now avail various social security and employment based schemes through registration on the e-shram portal,” the Ministry of Labor and Employment said in a statement.

  1. Migrant workers must remember that the e-shram card received after registration will be accepted across the country.
  2. They are eligible for accident insurance coverage through Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
  3. Migrant workers and their families are eligible to avail benefits of Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death and permanent disability.
  4. Apart from these, there is a provision of one lakh rupees in case of partial disability.
  5. It is to be noted that the social security benefits will be disbursed through the e-Shram portal.
  6. Migrant workers will have to register on the e-shram portal – http://eshram.gov.in.
  7. Registration on the e-Shram portal can be done through self-registration, Common Service Centers (CSCs) and Regional Offices of State Governments.
